Hi, my name is Jill Hurley. I am very excited to be teaching at Sprout. The students I have had in my classes are great! I am from Illinois, a state in the U.S. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. I earned a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. This led me to teaching. While in graduate school I tutored many non-native English speaking students. These students were mostly elementary school age.
After graduating with my Applied Linguistics degree I went to teach in South Korea. My first year there I taught at an academy with elementary school students, as well as some middle and high school students. I then started at a university, primarily teaching university students. Through the university I also worked with a middle school to teach Geography. At this university we had children’s summer camps in which I taught kindergarten and elementary students.
In 2007, I moved to another university near Seoul where I taught for seven years. While in Korea, I traveled extensively throughout Asia. I visited Beijing and Shanghai in 2008. I enjoyed China’s cultural wonders and people enormously. Someday I hope I can return for a longer visit.
My time teaching English as a Second Language did not stop when I returned from Korea. I continue to teach English to adult international students at two different community colleges in Illinois and Iowa. I am very happy to be teaching young learners again at Sprout. Thank you for reading my introduction letter. I hope I can teach your child in the future.
