My name is Marianne and I have been a teacher in Toronto, Canada for the past 32 years. I received my teaching degree from the University of Toronto, specializing in English, Special Education, and English as a Second Language. I have had the opportunity to teach all grade levels from kindergarten (ages 4-5 years old) to Grade 12 (ages 17-18 years old). This has allowed me to take a holistic approach in my teaching and easily adapt to any teaching situation.
Four years ago I travelled to Guilin, China to teach English for the summer. Here I worked with Chinese students to improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills. I used an interactive approach, encouraging as much speaking as possible. Students were responsible for presentations, group work and reading comprehension. We even had a debate! This was a very rewarding experience for the students and myself. I was proud to help these students achieve outstanding
results and improve their speaking skills by 90%.
As a teacher for Sprouts, I am committed to helping students achieve their goals. After my teaching experience in China, it became clear to me that although reading and writing was taught effectively, speaking skills still require more attention. The Sprouts program will give students this opportunity to speak and interact in a comfortable and meaningful environment. I am able to focus on each student’s individual needs and help them reach a higher level of competency.
I look forward to working with your child to help them become more proficient in English.
